Spring Fishing - Mar through May Summer Fishing - June through Aug Fall Fishing - Sept through Nov

Summer fishing during June, July & August.

Early summer till fall, fishing Lake Erie is wide open !
By now the water temperature should be in the 50's. The spawn is over and the walleye should be following their annual migration routes and feeding patterns. The weather paterns are more stable, bait fish are schooling - and where the bait travel the eyes will follow.
I personally prefer to leave the dock in time to watch the sun rise as we motor to our fishing destination. And you're invited to sing "Here Comes the Sun" with me.

Post-spawn the walleye migration routes begin at the far Western Basin and progress to the east. With the rise in water temperature, the walleye are more active and trolling boat speeds can vary from 1.2 - 2.3 mph. For those who enjoy casting, June is an excellent month for spinning rods and weight forward lures tipped with nightcrawlers.
The majority of our fishing will take place in more 'open" water. Our electronics become very vital to locate where in the water column the fish are located. As stated above, the ultimate goal is to locate a school of bait fish. At that point, we can run in-line weights, jets and/or dispseys with either harness rigs or spoons. If the fish are actively feeding, crank baits will also produce well. And of course, the infamous bottom bouncer with worm harness is always a deadly weapon .

Below is a screen capture from the Lowrance, full color sonar.  Water depth is 32 ft. The yellow/orange/blue shapes are bait balls, most probably shad, 6' - 10' down.  The arches below the bait balls "should" be the most active walleye, feediing up and into the bait.  These fish are suspended between 8' - 20'.  The walleye below the 20' depth, are most likely not actively feeding.  But as the graph shows, there are a good number of 'em hanging deep.  I will run a lure at this depth to try and trigger an 'aggression bite'.
